Harmonica Blues Triplet Licks on C Harmonica Lesson

Mar 16, 2016 | Intermediate Harmonica Lessons, Licks

Today’s lesson shows how you can take repeating triplet licks and turn them into proper blues phrases.

You will need a harmonica in the key of C.

Triplet timing is really useful for blues music as it fits really well over a shuffle rhythm. So, it is really important that you are playing 3 notes evenly over the beat. Try and practice with a metronome.

Exercises

Start by practicing the four triplet exercises I included so that you can get comfortable with that style of playing before moving on to the licks.

Licks

Practice the licks nice and slowly to start with and then speed up once you can play them perfectly.

Next step

Take one or two of the triplet based licks and see how you can change them to create new phrases.

Practice playing them over a backing track.
