Hello and welcome to this week’s harmonica lesson where I will show you how to play the Paul Butterfield’s version of the BB King classic – Thrill is Gone. Paul normally played it in 2nd position on a D harmonica but I thought it would be fun to show you in 3rd position on a G harmonica.

3rd position
This tune is played in 3rd position on a G harmonica which means that we are playing in the key of A. The song is a minor song so we are playing in the key of A minor.
Although I’m reasonably certain that Paul played it in 2nd position on a D harmonica, I think it is fun to learn songs in different positions for a different feel.

You´re amazing. I´m very happy with every lesson you teach. I´m study a little because I was photografing some harmonicas to do a calendar of 2018. Thank you very much.
HI Tomlinson-can’t download tab from your e-mail link; response is ‘safari can’t download file’. I’m using an iPad.
Hello Tomlin,
The links to your fine tabs don’t work if I use Chrome on macOS. I enter eMail and first name but the dialog doesn’t proceed as expected and I get no mail. If using Safari everything works.
Could you please check?
Kind regards,
Udo
I like your patient approach especially since ypu seem to enjoy sharing your love of the harp
Hi Tomlin,
Thanks for your tutorial. I have practiced.
Hi Bill, I’m sorry about that – I’ve send you a PDF to your email. Cheers, T
Hi Udo, I’m sorry to hear that – It must be an issue with Chrome. Are you ok to use Safari instead? Cheers, T
Thank you Suely 🙂
Nice work! When you are playing with the backing track, try to start on beat 4 of the count in 🙂
