How to play Thrill is Gone by Paul Butterfield in 3rd position!

Nov 22, 2017 | Backing Track, Intermediate Harmonica Lessons, Licks, Songs

Hello and welcome to this week’s harmonica lesson where I will show you how to play the Paul Butterfield’s version of the BB King classic – Thrill is Gone. Paul normally played it in 2nd position on a  D harmonica but I thought it would be fun to show you in 3rd position on a G harmonica.

3rd position

This tune is played in 3rd position on a G harmonica which means that we are playing in the key of A. The song is a minor song so we are playing in the key of A minor.

Although I’m reasonably certain that Paul played it in 2nd position on a D harmonica, I think it is fun to learn songs in different positions for a different feel.
