Hello! Today’s lesson is more psychological and strategy-based for you.
It is suitable for all levels of harmonica player and you won’t need a harmonica for it!
I am going to be explaining to you how and why you should establish small goals on a regular basis.
Small goals
Over to you…
You can write your personal goal as a comment on this page or on the Facebook page or on the Youtube video page. I will check up on you in a wee while to see how you are getting on!
Thank you
Thank you for taking part in this lesson. I hope you take something away from it!

Interesting discussion. It is EXACTLY the conclusion I came to several weeks ago and one of the reasons I looked up your lessons and started going through them. I can do some killer bends and fairly impressive performances on straight harp with known songs. My improve blues is lousy though. I have a few good licks but I haven’t really mastered many and have trouble piecing them together into something that sounds good. I examined myself and realized that I had tried to skip a lot of basics and go right to the showy stuff. Good discussion!
Thanks Tomlin – you have an Occam’s Razor approach to harp which is useful & appreciated.
Please keep your videos coming. Gracias y adios. Brett
Hi Daniel, this sounds like a very common route to take. A lot of my students have done the same thing. The main thing to do is to go back to basics and really study the 12 bar structure. Get comfortable improvising but only with root notes of the I, IV and V chords. Then you can start incorporating those licks you have. Let me know how you get on 🙂
De nada Brett – I’m glad you find the lessons helpful 🙂
I am going to concentrate on my breathing more deeply and practice it simply to begin with by blowing and drawing single notes.
One goal I had was trying to hit the lick in bar 7 of “Slow Blues”, pretty straightforward: 4+ 3* 3** 2, but hard for me to get them spot on. After watching this vid though I should probably shorten it to just hit the 3* accurately and then add on the rest. Thanks.
Yes, you are thinking along the right lines!
